CFUV RADIO SHOW PROFILE: BEATING AROUND THE BUSH
Considering the vast assortment of programming–70+ shows?–on CFUV, UVIC’s radio station, finding decent shows can be difficult. However, after Regularly listening to the station for the past year and a half, a few shows stand out as particularly reliable in terms of content. One such show is Beating Around the Bush (BATB).
Hosted by Blake and Simon, who are perhaps better known as the band Ruthie and Winfield, BATB airs every Sunday night from 9:00 - 10:00. The show is basically what one could expect from a Canadian indie-rock-favouring community radio show: frequently played bands include Chaad Vangaalen, Handsome Furs, Mount Eerie, and Women (OK, that was just tonight). Most nights also feature a fair amount of local music, including a bunch of Old Life bands, specifically Balacade, Colourbook, Nail Salon, etc. What makes the show especially endearing and listenable is the oft-awkward (but consistently witty) banter between the two (18 year old) hosts. Relevant, consistent, and hosted by nice dudes, BATB is a good way to end a weekend.
Listen to BATB every Sunday night on CFUV (101.9 FM in Victoria or streaming on http://cfuv.uvic.ca)
